STOP THE VOTE FOR CONDO BOARD MEMBERS TO PUSH THROUGH DECLARATION AND/OR BY-LAW CHANGES THROUGH ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS OR VIRTUAL MEETINGS - MAKE THEM FACE-TO-FACE ACCOUNTABLE - VIRTUAL AGM'S ARE NO LONGER NECESSARY

BULLETIN      -     ANNUAL GENERAL MEETINGS

The COA has received numerous complaints relating to Virtual Condo Corporation Annual General Meetings (AGM).  We highly recommend that Condo Owners support Face-to-Face meetings to ensure transparency and accountability in your Condo Corporation.  DO NOT endorse and sign off on By-Law and/or Condo Declaration changes by electronic communication or by virtual AGM.  Force your Board to Call a Special Meeting to receive full explanation and platform for open discussion. Condo Boards are spamming Owners to force an approval by only providing an option to ACCEPT otherwise THE SPAM EMAIL is sent continuously

AUDITOR GENERAL OF ONTARIO REPORT

In 2021 the COA consulted with the Auditor General of Ontario relating to the deficiencies of the CAO and CMRAO.  Their Final Report is noted below.

Auditor General of Ontario prepared a Condominium Oversight in Ontario Report

"Overall, we concluded that the mandates given to the Condominium Authority of Ontario (Condo Authority) and the Condominium Authority Tribunal (Tribunal) are limited and do not sufficiently protect condo owners against common issues that they may encounter in their daily condo living. Many of the relevant 2015 amendments to the Condominium Act, 1998, that would provide more consumer protection giving condo owners and boards a stronger ability to manage their ownership interests and/or responsibilities effectively, are not proclaimed and therefore are not in force. We found that the Condo Authority, designated in September 2017, does not yet have effective and efficient processes and systems in place to carry out its mandated responsibilities."     View Report:  Value "For Money" Audit: Condominiums

Working with All Levels of Governments

Linda Pinizzotto, DStG, a well known Realtor, Philanthropist, Investor and Dame of the Order of St George, founded the Condo Owners Association COA in March 2010 to advocate Provincial Government and the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services to address the shortfalls of the Condominium Act 1998.  Success, in June 2012 the COA succeeded when the Government announced a Condo Act Review.  COA endorsed more accountability, governance and regulation of Board of Directors and Property Management needed licensing.  It is still a "Work in Progress", however we have seen many changes the job is NOT DONECondo Owners continue to work together with the COA to support thriving sustainable Condo Communities.
